Monday in the Swamp

I want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers, they're much appreciated.  I had a good weekend and enjoyed the spring like weather.
This week I start my next round of chemo and I'm anxious to get it over with and have a couple of weeks off.
I guess I'm ready to give a few more details, I have lung cancer and no I'm not a smoker.  I quit 37 years ago.  Guess it wasn't soon enough.
My doctors are great and I'm hopeful for a good outturn.

  2. I shall be thinking of you as you go through chemo this week. You would think after 37 years you wouldn't get lung cancer. I know you will beat this!

  4. There's just no reason why we get these things sometimes. I had bowel cancer at the age of 32, it's supposed to be a type of cancer which affects older people. Sending all good wishes your way.

  10. You are brave to share and put this out there. Not all lung cancer is due to smoking, so don't put guilt on yourself. I hope you are finding happiness and contentment in some way each day. Continued strength. Thinking of you. -Jenn

  11. I am glad you told us-now we know what to pray for. Lung cancer is curable and I know you can do this, Janet. Are you going to have to have surgery, too?

Make sure you get LOTS of rest because chemo really makes you tired and you need the sleep to heal.

Keep us posted! We got your back! xo Diana

  12. Sending more prayers your way, and more good wishes! I quit smoking 36 years ago and hope it is long enough....But who knows. I live with my son who is a smoker which is rather sad.

  13. To give up smoking 37 years ago is the best thing that you could possibly have done, and it is a big congratulations to you that you did it. There are numerous other causes for lung cancer, so don't blame yourself - pollution, passive smoke, and living in areas that have radon don't help either.
Take care Janet - you are in the best possible hands - great doctors, and your very loving husband by your side too.

  16. Dear Janet,
You are a brave woman to share. It is a hard thing to tell us here in your blog.
I have no enough words to express my whole feeling with my second language. I hope you will fight and win your cancer like my best friend in Mito Japan, who has successfully fought her lung cancer.
    日本に住むお嬢さんも心配されていることと思います。
    早く回復して又京都で会い出来ることを、そしてお約束した奈良の鹿と遊べる日が来ることを願っています。

  17. You will get through this, Janet. Always feel free to share. This is your place and a safe place, I think. Medicine is so much different than it was decades ago, so much better. Keep fighting.

  18. So many wonderful developments being made in this area of medical treatment and hope you will benefit from the improvement made over the years. Will be thinking of you and sending up prayers. Pick a song for your theme and use it for healing. Mine was always this part of the sone I'm sure you remember: 'I can see clearly now, the rain is gone. All of my obstacles have gone away. It's gonna be a bright, bright, bright sunshiny day!' xoxo Sharon

  20. Stay strong, Janet. You can do this! My Mum ended up with esophagus cancer, never ticked any of the boxes. The doctors told her it was just something that happened, no rhyme or reason for it. Stay positive!

  27. Janet thank you for your bravery and honesty to open you personal life with us. We never know how many friends we have until we go through such a difficult time and let ourselves open up for the love to pour in. I love reading all the comments, and all the loving support you are getting. Like so many others, take care of YOU. Lots of rest and prayers that the treatments will work. You have a wonderful attitude, and we are all here for you. Holding you in my heart and prayers.

  28. So sorry to hear this. I haven’t been on blogs for awhile, so I didn’t know what you are going through. One thing about sharing is you get a lot of positive thoughts and prayers. Go back to them when you need lifted up. I hope you feel better quickly after the chemo treatment. And as so many others have said, relax and take care of you. Will keep you in my prayers.
    Cindy

  29. I hope knowing the end of the treatments is in sight will make this round a little easier. Just do whatever it takes to make the day more pleasant and get you through.
I have been exposed to asbestos at several of the schools I taught in over the years. Your smoking may have had nothing to do with it. Anyway, the important thing is the here and now and getting through. Sending hugs.
